LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE – a series – Harbes Family Farm

October 22, 2020

One of my favorite places to go on Long Island is the North Fork. If you’ve never been it’s about 80 miles outside of the city and the change in scenery is beautiful. It’s mostly made up of farm land and vineyards. My husband and I have a couple of friends with houses out on the North Fork so we are fortunate to be able to spend so much time out there. As we make the drive out we often will say, if we didn’t have to commute to the city we would move out there in a heart beat. It’s filled with small charming towns with little shops, delicious restaurants and wineries, so many wineries 🙂 Most people think of heading out East for the summer but fall may be my favorite time of year out there.

Last week we picked up our daughter from school and headed out to Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck for some pumpkin picking. We went on a Thursday and it was still pretty crowded so if you’re worried about COVID I would recommend a weekday as I would imagine the weekends are even more crowded. Harbes has a few different locations as well. Harbes Orchard for apple picking, Harbes Farm in Jamesport and Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck.

The Mattituck location had so many activities for the kids like play gyms for different ages, a little farm, a bounce pad and hay rides. After playing for a few hours we headed to grab pumpkins and something to eat. We didn’t want to attempt the pumpkin field to pick our own, that seemed like it may be a disaster with the stroller. Luckily they also had a wide variety of pumpkins on tractors and in bins to choose from. We picked a couple for the kids and grabbed a pack of apple cider donuts for the ride home. They were delicious and were half gone by the time we got home 😊

If you’re looking for a fun fall outing to do with the family I would highly recommend heading out East to Harbes Family Farm.

Check out their website for information on all that they offer, prices, hours.
